Training Plans

There are many training plans available.  The one fact is that you need a plan that fits your level of fitness and you personal needs, abilities, and preferences.  I noticed in my many years of running and trying many combination and examining many training publications, there are core rules and there are personal preferences.  The core rules cover about 3 to 5 day a week, consisting of LSD (Long Slow Distance) and rest.  The remainder, while important, is up to you.

I notice over my running career that no matter what the distance, at some point in a race my mind tends to loss focus on the object.  I slow down, feel like my body won’t respond and this usually causes me to lose my overall running objective for the day.  Usually after this slow down I figure out that I’m not so tire and I return to my pace for the last stretch.  In the meantime, my PR or race goal has slipped away.

When I have had races were I’ve overcome this I would prepare myself for this eventuality and could usually get though it with little impact on my over all pace and the result were more satisfactory.

It will happen more often the more competitive you run.  In any case, be sure that your training and your prerace preparation address this and you will be able to manage to your satisfaction.
